19th. Century Civil War era Mammy's Rocker Bench. These were found on plantations on the front porches of antebellum mansions. They were used by the Mammy to rock the sleeping baby, behind the gate, while she sewed or shelled peas. The gate is removable. These benches are usually found in *private* collections. This one is in the original condition. Notice the handmade arrowback spindles. A very special piece!
